Message from Terrace Chapters to FI Parents in Terrace

June 2011

Hello French Immersion Parents!

Another school year is almost over, and we hope it has been a good one for you and your children. We’re writing to let you know that the Canadian Parents for French, Terrace Chapter, has a new executive. We are:

President - Dina von Hahn
Vice President - Josiane Biggs
Treasurer - Terri Bowles
Secretary - Kari Eisner
Director - Carolyn DeFreitas
Director - Flo Sheppard

For the past two years, CPF Terrace has been led by the hard working volunteers who continue to serve on the Ecole Mountainview Parent Advisory Committee During those years, CPF Terrace brought you two family dances, a spring festival at Kit’i’kshan, French entertainers, and is supporting Skeena students’ travel to France this summer. Now the group felt it was time for some new energy to carry on the activities of CPF Terrace.

The PAC will continue to function to support EMV school, while CPF Terrace has a wider mandate to support French language learning in our community. For over 30 years, since the French Immersion program began in Terrace, our local chapter of this national and provincial organization has advocated for quality in French language learning. We were instrumental in advocating for the move to a single-track program, first at Kiti’k’shan and now at Mountainview, a change which has led more families to the program and kept them there, thanks to French language learning assistance and other supports made possible by the change to a K-7, single track program. As well, we continue to support our Grade 12 graduates with graduation pins, scholarships, and public recognition at graduation. We also work, whenever possible, with our local francophone school, L’Ecole Jack Cook, with schools teaching French as a Second Language to students in grades five to eight, and with local Early Childhood Educators.

CPF membership is open to anyone, and the fees you pay are returned directly to our local chapter. Chapter meetings are open to all families with students learning French, and by attending you get a say in how Chapter monies are spent.

We thank all of our current and past members for the support, and encourage you to renew this fall during our membership drive. Those of you who have not yet joined will also get your chance this fall. You can take the summer to learn more about CPF by browsing the BC and Yukon branch website at www.cpf.bc.ca, visiting our chapter Blog at www.cpfterrace.blogspot.com contacting an executive member, or by attending our next meeting on June 15, at 7:30 p.m. at Ecole Mountainview, where we’ll be planning the next school year’s activities.

Thank you for choosing French Immersion, and have a great summer.
